Reset iPhone or iPad

You can reset your iPhone or iPad to fix minor problems with your device or to erase all your data. A reset restores your iPhone or iPad to its factory settings. Note that this will delete all your data, including your apps, photos, and videos. You can back up your files to keep them. There are three ways to reset your iPhone or iPad, which we explain below.



Resetting your iPhone or iPad from the device itself


  1. Tap "Settings".
  2. Tap "General".
  3. Scroll down and tap "Reset".
  4. Tap "Erase all content and settings".
  5. Tap "Clear iPhone".
  6. Tap "Clear iPhone" again.
  7. All your data will now be erased, this usually takes a few minutes.


Resetting your iPhone or iPad with iTunes


  1. Open iTunes on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer.
  3. In iTunes, click on the iPhone icon.
  4. Click on "Restore iPhone..."
  5. If necessary, disable Find My iPhone first. You can find out how to do this in the menu on the left.
  6. Tap "Ok" and tap "Restore iPhone..." again.
  7. Tap "Backup" and tap "Restore".


Resetting Your iPhone or iPad with iCloud


  1. Go to iCloud.com on, for example, your computer and sign in with your AppleID.
  2. Tap "Find iPhone".
  3. Tap "All devices" at the top and select your device.
  4. Tap "Clear iPhone".
  5. Tap "Clear".
  6. Sign in with your AppleID.
  7. Enter your answers and tap "Continue".
  8. Enter a phone number and a message, if needed.
  9. Tap "Done".
  10. Tap "Ok".
  11. Tap "Delete from account".
  12. Tap "Delete".
